Who is/are Scriveiner?
Scriveiner is a British brand specialising in the design and manufacture of premium quality, affordable, luxury fine writing instruments.
Founded on the principles of luxury minimalism by husband and wife team Justin and Yanning, all Scriveiner pens must: be beautifully designed, be fit for purpose, last a lifetime, offer incredible value for money, and enrich our customers' lives.
Since inception, Scriveiner has become the #1 UK pen brand — one of the fastest growing companies in the UK, with pens adored by pen lovers around the world.
How do you pronounce Scriveiner?
Scriveiner (also 'scrivener') is a Middle English word meaning a scribe or professional writer. The Merriam-Webster dictionary has an audio example — click the speaker icon on their site. In British English, we shorten the 'ner' sound at the end.
Where are your products made?
We combine British design, German engineering, and Chinese manufacturing:
- All pens are designed in London
- Writing components (nibs, refills, converters) are made in Germany
- Pen body, box, and final assembly are manufactured in China
- Cartridges are made in the UK
Are your products made in China?
We are a British brand based in London with a global supply chain — like most companies today. All products are designed in London; the pen body is manufactured in China; the refill in Germany. It's the same model as Apple — designed in the US, manufactured to very high standards in China.
What is the warranty policy?
Our standard warranty is one year. Customers can get a two-year extended warranty by registering their pen on our website.
What type of refills can I use?
Use Scriveiner rollerball ink refills (black or blue), available on Amazon. You can also use Schmidt 888 refills — available on Amazon or in good stationery stores (search 'Schmidt 888 refill').
How do I change a rollerball refill?
- Unscrew the pen barrel — there is a spring inside the barrel end. Don't lose it.
- Remove the current refill from the grip section.
- Place the new refill in the grip section.
- Reassemble the pen. If the spring is missing, the refill tip will push back in when writing.
- A spare spring is included in the envelope with the spare refill.
- To replace the spring: disassemble, insert the spring into the barrel, then reassemble.
Does the pen have real gold?
For the black and silver pens, the accents (gold rings, clip, base, and top logo surround) are plated with 24k gold.
The ink is skipping — what should I do?
The pen uses the German Liquid Ink system. The refill may be near empty, or an unused refill can dry out if stored without the cap (normally lasts 12 months capped). Try these steps:
- Scribble quickly up, down, and in circles on paper.
- Warm water: submerge only the tip to break up any dried ink.
- Shake and press: shake the pen, then press the ball firmly onto paper.
If none of these work, direct the customer to Live Chat or the website.
Is it suitable for left-hand writing?
The vast majority of left-handed customers report no issues. Our liquid ink dries very quickly, minimising smearing — though writing style and grip are always factors.
Can I use a ballpoint pen refill in my rollerball pen?
No. The refills use different mechanisms (oil-based vs liquid ink) and different dimensions. They are not interchangeable.

Where can I get a replacement nib?
The nib is a Schmidt FH241 (size 5), available in Extra Fine (0.35mm), Fine (0.5mm), Medium (0.6mm), or Broad (0.7mm). We don't sell them directly, but they're available from various online retailers.
How do I store my fountain pen?
Keep the nib up when not in use to prevent drying or clogging. Store inside the protective case or pouch to keep it looking like new.
What are the compatible cartridges for my pen?
Scriveiner cartridges are on Amazon (20 per pack) in black and blue.
The pen accepts International Standard Size cartridges (short and long). Tested compatible brands: MontBlanc, Schneider, Waterman, Pelikan, Kaweco, Caran d'Ache, Stabilo, Monteverde, Diamine, Beaufort.
⚠️ Not compatible: Dryden, Monaggio, Jinhao (claim ISS but are smaller). Parker Quink is also a different format and will not fit.
The ink is skipping — what should I do?
- Ensure the cartridge is fully pushed in — the seal must be broken to release ink. If using a converter, make sure it's properly seated.
- Replace the cap and rest the pen nib-down in a glass to let ink feed through.
- Hold vertically and gently tap the nib onto paper to help gravity pull ink down.
- Press the nib down harder than normal to open the slit slightly — repeat until ink flows.
- Run the nib tip under warm water to start flow.

For the black and silver pens, the accents are plated with 24k gold. The nib is a Schmidt nib gilded with 18K gold.
Where can I buy an additional converter?

Is it suitable for left-hand writing?
Fountain pens are suitable for both right and left-handed writers, depending on technique and handwriting position.
Which paper is best for my fountain pen?
Fountain pens perform best on good quality, thick paper. Thin or low-quality paper may cause feathering (ink spreading through fibres), bleed-through, or show-through. Paper specifically designed for fountain pens is engineered to prevent these issues. Thicker paper naturally reduces show-through.
